Access to safe and clean water is a fundamental right and one of the main challenges faced by communities across Brazil. The Mejuruá Project is changing this reality by providing, for the first time, treated water to families in the community of Riozinho, located along the Juruá River. This effort contributes directly to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 6, which aims to ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

In Brazil, around 33 million people lack access to clean water, according to data from the Trata Brasil Institute. Before the implementation of the Mejuruá Project, residents of Riozinho consumed untreated water and faced a high risk of disease contamination, which severely affected their quality of life. With the installation of water filtration and treatment systems, more than 32 communities have been benefited and now have access to safe drinking water, significantly reducing health issues and promoting greater well-being.

“It’s a very important project because it will help all the residents of the community. Now we have an opportunity we never had in our region,” says Antônio José, a resident of Riozinho.
